Summerhouse Studio:

Textiles: Design Your Own Table Setting
June 5th 10am - 4pm
Silkscreen and handpaint a set of placemats, a table cloth and napkins to match. Ideal for your own home or a special gift!

Workshop: $65 + $5 material fee.

 

Floor Cloth
June 12 - 13, 10am - 4pm

Create a work of art that you can walk on! Students will be encouraged and guided to create their own work of art for the floor. When finished and sealed, your floor cloth becomes a hardwearing, decorative alternative to a carpet. Experiment with hand painting, block print and stencil techniques on canvas...wonderful colours and textures!

Workshop $120 + $10 material fee.

 

Shabby Chic - Handpainted and Decorated Furniture
July 12 - 13, 10am - 4pm

Do you have an old piece of funiture tucked away in the corner of the cottage, boathouse or garage? Let cottage style and river landscape inspire your creative explorations. Transform your furniture with textures and colour to create a work of art. Experiment with faux finishes, hand painting, leaf prints, resists and finishing techniques. You will learn the tips and tricks of glazes for that 'sun soaked' yellow of Provence or the White washed 'battered' look of aged antiques and cool 'shabby chic' ... all ideal for the wide porhes of the St. Lawrence.

2 Day Workshop $120 + $10 material fee.

How to Make a Living Doing What You Love
June 26th 10am - 4pm
Have you ever considered turning your creatige energy into a business: a career change for the mind, body and soul? This course is a great jump-start. With over 20 years of making a living doing what she loves, the instructor will guide you through the basics of getting started. Retail shows, wholesale, consignment, marketing, promotion and creating...what it takes for personal and financial success. Join us for an information packed, one day workshop.

Students should start to collect a file of promotional materials that have influenced them - ads, hang tags, cards, letterheads, brochures etc. If you have a resume/CV, bring it with you. Bring photos of your product/work or the product itself for class 'brainstorming' on marketing ideas.

Repainting and Decorating Furniture -
Cottage Style Furniture at Emily Post's cottage (founder of the craft school). Heritage location Grindstone Island, hosted by Emily Holt and Caroline Larson.

Recycle and reinvent old clothing into contemporary or classic, funky or retro designs. Learn how to re-cut an old jacket, sweater or skirt, then add hand painted or printed patterns, appliques and laminates, deconstructed slashes, beads and embroidery, ruffles and ribbons...just some of the techniques we will learn to customize cool clothing for a new wardrobe. Bring garments you want to recycle and reinvent and with guidance of a textile fahsion designer, become one yourself.

Workshop: $160 - Material Fee: $10

 

Mixed Up Media-Surface Explorations

Do you have a favourite piece of fabric, an old skirt, table cloth or curtain that is too lovely to throw out? Repurpose, recycle and recreate some of your favourite fabrics into designer pillows, cushions or sham covers for you favourite room or front porch chair. You will learn various surface manipulations such as applique, trapunto, pleating and transparency techniques using sumptuouse shades and textures of ribbons, voiles and silks.. You will also learn basics of hand painting and nature pirnting, mixing your own colours to create new patterns and designs to match you fabric covers. Ideas are endless! This is a workshop for students of any level.

Workshop: $100 - Material fee $10

Reconstructed Garments

July 26 - 30

Don't throw out those clothes, just because you are tired of them! Recycle and reinvent clothing tinto contemporary, classic, funky or retro designs.
